Each band below is what the sellers’ own pages showed on the day we read them. The bands with their own page link to it. The lowest bands live only here, because the shops that rank for them sell silver, moissanite and simulants rather than diamond rings, and most searches for cheap engagement rings for women land on those same shop pages.
Under $300: Silver, Simulants and Lab-Created Gems
Searches for engagement rings under $100, under $200 and under $300 return shops selling sterling silver, moissanite and cubic zirconia. A mainstream jeweler shows the same picture. On the first page of Zales’s engagement rings under $500, the twenty rings priced from $129 to $299 were all sterling silver, most were set with lab-created white sapphire, and one carried a diamond, an accent of 0.04 carat.
None of those center stones is a diamond. GIA describes cubic zirconia as “durable and suitable for everyday wear, though it is less hard than diamonds or moissanite and more prone to scratches and abrasions over time”, and says it often costs less than 5% of a comparable diamond. Under $500: Where the Large Online Jewelers Run Out

Shape: What GIA Says Costs Less per Carat
GIA writes that ovals “are typically more affordable than round brilliants of the same carat weight”, and that princess, radiant, cushion and heart shapes cost less per carat than rounds as well. The Band: Plain Costs Less Than Pavé
The Knot quotes James Allen’s chief marketing officer putting the band question plainly: “Are you planning for a simple band that will be cheaper or something with a lot of smaller diamonds that will take more of your budget?” The Zales pick puts its extra stones beside the center stone rather than along the band, and Rare Carat’s Linda is a plain comfort-fit band.
Karat: 10K, 14K and 18K
The picks run from 10K at Zales through 14K at Rare Carat and Brilliant Earth to 18K, where Angara’s listing opens.
